Example of Taiwanese media writing about ㄈㄈ尺
– Such articles are very common in recent years
– CCR (Cross Cultural Relationship) written as ㄈㄈ尺 is derogatory. It’s often used to shame women who date foreigners (learn more about it in my previous post)
– 西餐, lit. “western dish”, is a derogatory term for a foreigner, mostly a
white foreigner. Girls who date foreigners are often labeled as 西餐妹
– When Taiwanese guys date white women, ㄈㄈ尺 is used less, instead media uses the positive term 台灣之光 (Pride of Taiwan)
– Media giving nicknames based on looks is common be it describing
foreigners or Taiwanese (examples: 胖老外 “fat foreigner”, 大鬍子老外 “big
bearded foreigner”)Before you read the translated article, you may want to check out my post about the ㄈㄈ尺 controversy surrounding Taiwanese singer Yuki Hsu, another story that made headlines in July. This is the translation (original Chinese version can be found here)
