恐怖小说在中国 传统的理论界对恐怖文学是回避的，尽管他们中不少人是恐怖小说和恐怖电影的爱好者或者至少是他的夫人是恐怖小说的爱好者。他们认为它是通俗文学，不可登大雅之堂。我曾在《大家》杂志上说过：把通俗文学和严肃文学割裂是没有道理的，文学只有大师和一般作家之分，只有流行与经典之分。通俗文学也有大师，而严肃文学养的更多的是二、三流的作家，与其都拥挤在纯文学的大堂里混饭，还不如另辟溪路，在通俗文学、类型小说的创作上试试身手。其实很多严肃文学作家对恐怖小说是情有独衷的，几年前我就亲耳听著名先锋作家马原说过要写一部恐怖小说（后来虽然没有写，但是他却选编了一本《大师的残忍：我最喜爱的恐怖小说》）；另一位我尊敬的先锋作家格非也曾说，他非常喜欢西方的恐怖和悬念小说，如爱伦·坡和阿加莎·克里斯蒂。他说：爱伦·坡的恐怖小说往诗意的方向发展，克里斯蒂则智商很高。他甚至希望：“如果时间允许，我也想写一部真正的恐怖小说，那会是很好玩的一件事。”写过《蒙面之城》的作家宁肯在其新作《环行女人》中，大胆引入了恐怖小说的元素，使小说更加好看的同时又给人一种新鲜的经验。
